Question Idle speed adjustment????

Is there any way to lower the idle speed on an '01 V10. Mine idles around 850-900rpm. I'd like to see it below 750rpm. I've cleaned the IAC and backed off the set screw for the idle stop but it made no difference. BTW, I've also checked for vacuum leaks. Anybody have any suggestions?

I asked this same question about 6 months ago...

Comparing idle speeds, your idle range is perfectly normal
and most all other v10 engines idle around the same numbers
you have provided.

I haven't found a way to lower the idle speed, though i
too would prefer it a little lower.

And you'll get into no alternator action at idle, not much water flowing, not much power steering boost (making the spool valve wear out faster), etc. etc.

The only way to change the idle speed is to reprogram the PCM - the computer (PCM) controls everything, including the idle speed. Closing the throttle plates just means the computer will open the IAC more.

My V10 idles at about 600 while idling in gear, but, goes to about 750 when idling in park.

Your idle speed is in the normal range.

The idle speed in drive and in neutral can be adjusted with a tuner such as SCT SF or Diablosport Predator tuners.

I left my idle speeds at factory defaults. IMO theres no need to touch them.

Never had anything to do with the V10 before this truck, so I'll take your word this is a normal idle speed. It just seems high compared to my old 5.4 F150. But then again the 5.4 while idling at 650rpm wasn't as smooth as the V10.
thanks guys.

What are you using to read your idle RPM? My truck tach reads about 800-900 while in park. However, when I monitor with my SCT tuner...650. I found my truck tach is pretty accurate at anything off idle again comparing with my SCT tuner to monitor engine information and compare with the tach.

The factory tach is only good to about +-200 RPM.

i'm just looking at the gauges on the dash. when in gear at a stop light it feels like i've got my foot on the gas, its pulling even without me giving it gas. When in park it it even seems high. Its all stock and i havn't had it all that long and am trying to waid through the normal maintanence issues one at a time.

thanks
