the rear would be 4 linked with air bags so there is no axle wrap. also sled pulling in a DOT class he wouldn't be able to do since they require stock type suspension.
Steve your truck probably wouldn't fit into any stock classes anyway so you might be able to still do it. but when your pulling you will want to deflate the bags and run on the bump stops. thats what big pullers do anyway. about an inch of travel then hit the bump stops so the rear stays up to keep the sled up.
could you run bags full of air to keep lift in the back to help keep the sled up come the end of the pull? or would the weight of the sled pop the bag?
i had a buddy that thought about airin down to the bump stops and pickin the sled up down the track but tech wouldnt allow it. he had to put blocks in the back, he had set it up with pins and a block so he could just air up and pin the block in and tech was happy with that. just need some semi truck bags to be able to pick the sled up though!! well and a lot more frame rail. yeah its 4 linked there is a very very small amount of axle wrap due to there still poly cushioned enclosed hiems. i couldnt figure a way to measure the amount but from driving you cant feel any but with a 4link your going to have the affects of sqaut and anit squat force the geometry of my suspension is very neutral so it stays very flat under acceleration and braking, but this was achived by having the links almost level at normal ride hieght. i usually run the truck just above level so theres a slight amount of antisqaut thats figured out in a engineering calc as long as your under 50% your good and where i run it at the "lifted" hieght im at 34%as and it still feels like it launches flat and hard and brakes very flat too.
Well here goes my number 4,000. But really I just got the air ride thought out of my head. I have too many projects filed away upstairs. I J U S T C A N' T
C O N C E N T R A T E!!!!! I MUST WRENCH AND FABRICATE!
No really though these types of projects keep me up at night engineering while I lay in bed. This is one that its just too expensive though. now I just need to figure out a way to build an RSK along with the soon to be mine Blizzard 810 snow plow!! that will be fun for sure!
Jake thanks for all the info on your project. I will certainly be saving this thread!
