I have an 07 Expedition with the air ride. The compressor sounds like it might have loosened up. It got louder than it was a month or so ago. What's the best way to get a look at it? Do I have to pull the batter out to get a look at the mounting location? It was replaced at ~72k and I have ~110k now. It works fine otherwise.
Just pull the pass side headlight out and it is right there. Just replaced mine as it was making a lot of noise and just gave out. New fuse and motor everything works like it should. Good luck.
I have a '11 Limited with low miles. The first year I had the Expy I only occasionally heard the compressor come on when I changed the load in the car (like hooking up the boat, etc...) About a year ago though it started pumping every time I started the car and I can hear it come on about every 20 min or so. I took the Expy in for warranty work and mentioned this to them saying I think the system has a leak. They only replaced the sensors and set them up and of course the system has acted the same since the work. Now the pump sounds like it's about to die if it pumps for more than 20-30 seconds.
I am coming up on my 3 years of ownership and want to take care of this under warranty. Do the compressors usually run occasionally even when there is no load change thinking that maybe the Expy settled in after a year. I am only at 17K now so not many miles a year.
Just wanted to get some feedback before I go back to the dealership to get it fixed.
These pumps collect condensation from leaky suspension parts. Sounds like you need a new pump but make sure they check the other parts of the system. Getting water in there from somewhere. Pump will operate air suspension if there is a small leak, it will keep working to inflate it. Sooner than later it will fail. Hope they find something.

Johnny
Mine just needed a small twist of the bolt to tighten the mount. It was vibrating a little. All fixed! Thanks jackone.
Johnny Law, It sounds like yours is coming on excessively. The pump will come on once in a while while driving or if you add a passenger/load etc, but it shouldn't be as much as what you're describing. I wouldn't settle for anything less than normal operating condition. Especially after chasing the repair for so long. You might want to hit up another dealership for a second opinion. Good luck.
