Have you checked for codes yet? They should probably tell you something. If there's no codes it probably points more toward a rebuild. Do you know if it's a 4R70W (302 engine only) or an E4OD?
Kinda funny, but I worked on a GM pickup once with only third gear and it ended up being a wire rubbed through blowing the trans fuse. But I don't think Ford has a separate fuse; I think they get their power through the PCM relay.
It sounds like the same problem I had in my '94. Mine was the later '94 with an AODE tranny. When I found out the repair bill ANYWHERE in town was going to be $1500 to rebuild, I opted to swap everything out. I wouldn't advise taking the route I took but at the same time, I still have a hard time with thinking $1500 was a reasonable price to rebuild an automatic tranny. Are you POSITIVE you have a 351? It took a lot of searching to figure out what the deal was on mine but basically, I had a intake that said 5.0 but I had a 5.7's firing order. The last I heard was that I had the 1995 5.0 HO engine because of the November '94 build date my truck had. Good luck!

$1500 is the norm for auto overdrives around here. Not installed !
And yes the late 93 up 5.0 have the 5.8 firing order .
talked to a ford tech and put a scan tool on the truck and it was full of codes
and got to looking and found the connector on the pass side of trans was unpluged
and was melted on the exhaust pipe so to the junk yard we go
let yall know how it turned out
$10 bucks says the replacement connector nails the problem. Hope the Ford Tech didn't charge you for the code scan... nothing a paper clip couldn't tell ya!!
he did not charge me and helped me and also told me what to get next for my abs problem so and the connector cost me $50 not one in the 5 junk yards i looked at
but the trans is shifting good and the only thing i hate about the truck is the fuel mileage 12 mpg i sold my other truck that was getting 38 mpg big jump
will take sum time to adjust to that
thanks for the help
