Pull the top cover off the transmission. It seems like maybe the little ball on the end of the shifter has come off. I have seen this before on other transmissions, but not sure how Henry builds them. You should be able to access the top from inside the cab. Remove the carpet or mat, remove the cover, and you should be able to get to the top of the tranny. I think there are 4 bolts holding it in. What do you mean by "I broke the stick loose"?

i forced the sick and i broke free from the shift rod, leaving the tranny in 2nd.. i spent the past day pulling the tranny. after pulling top cover (which is held on by 10 12mm bolts) i found that the detent for the 1-2 shift rod had slipped out just enought to catch in the piece that it slides through. my tranny oil (mercon/dexron3) was the color or liquid graphite. so i cleaned out the tranny and replaced the tranny fluid and it works fine now. thanks for all the help guys

well i spoke too soon as the tranny locked up again. but i knew what the problem was so i got some sheet metal sheers and cut my tunnel hole bigger so i could pull my top cover.those dam pins in the shift rods just won't stay put so i pulled them out and have them riding in my ashtray. they seem to do a better job in there than in my tranny. this time instead of 10hrs it took me 30min to fix the trouble. do you guys know what these pins are for (purpose)?????? my tranny works great without them in. they sat in a hole of the 1-2 and the 3-4 shift rods and prevented the rods moving through the guides closest to the shift lever. my tranny in the mazda r-2 (i think it's the r-2) any way you guys ROCK!!!!! now if i could hook up with cowboybillyninemile so we could help eaach other out

unfortunately i spoke too soon as yesterday my tranny once again got stuck. but this time i knew what was wrong. i got some sheet metal sheers and cut my tunnel so i could pull my top cover. and there it was the little pin in the 1-2 shift rod had once again slipped over. and this time the 3-4 pin was trying to slide out. so i pulled both pins out of the tranny and i get all my gears nice and easy. i don't know what the pins are for but they sure do work nicely riding in my ashtray. now i have to build a new tunnel cover as the old one just falls throught the huge hole i had to cut out. does anyone know what the pins in the 1-2 and 3-4 shift rods are for??? they ride in the rods at the guide closest to the shift lever.
