I have run into something I don't fully understand. Our ford van has been running bad for a little bit now. I have checked for codes and there were none when it first started running bad. In the last few weeks it had gotten worse. I went out and it had codes pending and in the history but the check engine light was not on.
I thought that after the same code had occured twice within a certain time frame that the CEL would come on? It is a 2000 windstar and the codes were P1100 and P1121. Basicily a Mass air flow problem.
The engine was in closed loop when the codes were set. I have an Autotap system and retrieved the freeze frame data.
Tried to spray it down with electrical cleaner as good as I could but it didn't help. Have ordered another one but it won't arrive until Wed. Hopefully after it is replaced no more problems.
Just thought it was strange that the CEL was not on.
Got a used mass air flow sensor last week and put it in. It's been about a week now and no more engine problems or codes set. My wife is now happy LOL.
