I’m new to the forum, and already I’ve found a lot of helpful info and good people.
<o></o>I purchased my first Ford diesel a few weeks ago, a 1997 XLT Lariat with ext cab, long bed, and 2wd. I have been pleased with my purchase because the price was good and because although the truck has a high 400K miles it also has a new Ford crate motor installed and a recently replaced transmission. It seemed like a fairly rare deal to me given that most people would buy a new truck rather than drop that kind of cash on repairs. I do have all of the receipts and my mechanic gave it the thumbs up.
<o></o>Anyway, there is one strange part of the whole deal. The previous owner showed me the odometer with 302K miles, but told me that he watched it roll over as he was driving. He claims that it rolled from 399K to 300Kmiles. I wasn’t sure what to think of that story, but it doesnt seem like something that someone would lie about – I mean why cheat yourself out of 100K miles if the odo supports you?
nope, pcm and odometer are totaly different on these, the odomter is actually called a PSOM Programmable Speedometer Odometer Module, its a stand alone system

<O></O>Anyone heard of this type of thing?
He wasnt lieing about that, its normal, I also have read several posts of it. Congrats and BTW welcome to enjoy your rig.
Thanks for the input guys. I fet like the guy I was dealing with was honest, and I am glad to find out that he was.
Here are a few pics of my truck.
It doesnt look bad for 402K miles. The previous owner drove the truck as a chase vehicle for wide loads, so the front end was battered with bugs and gravel (he covered the front in roll on bedliner to protect it) but everything else is in good shape. It seems like a life as a highway runner was kind to the rest of the mechanicals as it is still tight and rattle free.
