a friend and me have been working on an engine all week and we finally finished, put the motor in, hooked up the exhaust and started to crank the engine up. when it started it sounded like a dragster on the right sidewe tightened the headers up, started it again, it did the same thing and i am starting to wonder if the headers are cracked or something like that and they are new so could it have come from the factory like that.they are dynomax headers and i have never used them before. are they cheaply made?
Dynomax have about the worst reputation on here. I would recommend a set of flowtechs if you are looking for a cheap header. I love mine. Absolutley no problems.

I feel your Pain. I had the exact same experience. Damm Dynojunks (Jet Coated at that), won't seal, ( I tried copper gaskets) are very poorly made. I finally got the replacements -Sanderson FF427 - but they are still in box, won't know if they are all they are cracked up to be (cost $450.). I'll post next week when I know. -Many threads in Exhaust, seems every brand has had problems. I almost feel like buying some more and writing an article. Not.
I bolted on a set of 390 Hooker Comp. headers on my 360, never a problem and they sound so nice. I ran those to some Flowmaster 40 series, thats one helluva setup.

Hookers are good headers and fit reasonably well, but they will not fit Edelbrock or some CJ heads and you will have leaks on these applications. Whatever you decide on, if you can afford it, get the ceramic coating - it works.
i got dynomax headers on mine, i'll say nothing good or bad about them. i had problems getting them to seal with just standard header gaskets. i used some that were about 1/4" thick and looked th be made of somekind of paper. it also took 2hours to replace the starter since the one side has to be unbolted and the engine raised ( i never leave home without a floorjack). ok maybe i will say i don't care for the design and workmanship, but the wife says no to any more money being spent on it.
i'll find a way to get some smuggled in oneway or the other
My Sandersons came in - Two Passenger side headers, and they though they come closer to matching Exhaust Ports of my E Brok Heads, they still were 1/2" or more shorter. And I already have a set of beat on, reamed out Dynojunk, so I didn't feel like reworking a set of 450. headers, so back they go. -It's confusing, One persons Hookers are crap, 3 others swear by them. -Looking for something that fits E Brock heads, Sunny from hollister suggests FPA- I didn't think they had an application for FE in 2wd truck.
Yep, they have a Tri-Y setup for the 2WD, I'll be ordering a set in February for mine.

Third from the bottom of the list, you can get them with or without the HD 3/8ths inch flange, coated or not. All depends on how much you want to spend, really.
I've yet to hear anything bad about Stan's headers (FPA) for the trucks, and only minor issues with the car headers for the FE's.

Thanks to all for input.
I ordered the FPA today, and yes Stan is the Man.
I didn't go with Headmans in part because this months issue of American Rodder (I subscribed before it was sold, however I am getting used to new version) as an article on sealing headers, and the leaky ones they use are Hedmans. So I took them off list.
Thorleys look exactly like the Dynomax I can't get to seal, and Hooker didn't get me excited either.
So I did talk to the nice man (Stan) at FPA (Ford Powertrain Applications) who was very reassuring - they only have Ford stuff, and he told me things I wanted to hear, and $600.00 later I think I'm a happy camper - we'll see, he can't ship until a week from Thursday. I'll post results for sure. Trevor the CACWBY in WI. (The Console is in!!!)
