Both tanks I have put through my truck, I have ran it to 30-40 miles to empty. Both times I have only been able to squeeze 20.8 and 21.0 gallons in it. Is there a fuel ventilation problem or a gauge problem. I thought I was getting horrible mileage but seems to be ok considering.
My gauge problem is that it goes down way to fast. As for fueling, when the pump shuts off I have squeezed an additional 4 gallons into the tank. Problem with ventilation and foaming of the fuel I believe...I'm sure others will chime in on a tank modification you can do.
Same here, 30 miles to empty, most I can get in is 23 gallons. I've tried a couple times to pump real slow after that and can usually squeeze a gallon or so in, but then it just starts pouring out of the bottom of the truck till I stop. At $3 a gallon, what a shame to pour it on the ground lol...
That's not a fuel gauge problem. I think ford says 28-32 gallons for the SWB trucks. This includes about 5 gallons of "reserve" that does not register on the gauge. I've driven for 80 miles after a low fuel light went on, and still didn't put the whole 38 gallons in my old F-350.

This is exactly what I have to do. Slow at the end and watch the filler neck. Another trick if the handle only pumps fast is to let it settle between shutoffs.
