I think we have the u-joint and the differential mixed up. The spring to axle housing U-Bolts are 110-160 ft-lbs. the U-Joint bolts are 8-15 ft-lbs for the 5/16, 17-26 for the 3/8, and 30-40 ft-lbs for the 7/16.
well most people dont use a torque wrench on u-joint bolts....
i got the information from mustang monthly from a few years ago...
You would have to have a special kind of a torque wrench. I can barely get a box end wrench on my U-Joints. In 1977 I found one made by Utica and it was about $160.00. $126.00 for the torque wrench and $37.00 for the box end head that fits in it. You would have to buy another head at $37.00 each for each size of box end you needed. I decided that I would just continue using a box end wrench and tighten them up until they were snug. I have been doing this for over 50 years and have never had a U-Joint come loose.
