i would be a little scared of water coming in from a hood scoop because there ain't much way to drain it before it gets to intake. trust me, water in a diesel intake don't work well. better to duct it from low area where air can flow uphill to intake but not the water. just a thought.

Say maybe at the front marker light level - like this?
then maybe through the wheelwells - like this
and then through the fender liners up to the snorkle of the air breather - like this
I live in the mountains, there is no average reading since I am either going up or down a hill.
At stock fuel setting for a factory 7.3 turbo engine, I could hit 1200 real easy.
You can adjust the IP to get more fuel.
And you can adjust the wastegate on the turbo to increase the boost pressure.
Also when you add more fuel, you get more boost.
Running a free flowing exhaust also increases the boost.
Running ram air to the air box also increases boost.
Insulating the exhaust pipes before the turbo also increases boost.
Lots of ways to increase the boost pressure.
As far as an intercooler, running stock boost pressure an intercooler will help some.
But since you need to stay under 15 PSI until you do engine mods, the turbo outlet temp is not that much higher than air temp.
Therefore the temp drop will not be that much and the power increase will not be that much.
Looking at the cost of an intercooler, it would be hard to justify the cost for the return.
After you get into internal engine mods and are running high boost numbers, an intercooler will do much more to drop the intake air temp.
I need one, I just don't have room for it.
My snow plow bracket is right where I need to set the intercooler.
cheaperjeeper, that's exactly what i was talking about. just couldn't remember that it was your setup to point to. have started (one of several projects) gathering materials to fix my 90 like that. has enough power just tooling down the road empty but would like the extra oomph for hils when loaded.
