I was runing my truck all day yesterday and did not have a problem with it. Then i parked it at my house then about an hour later i jumped in to go down the street and i noticed my ABS light was starying on and my Speedo was not working, (it is not counting miles either)
Any one have this problem before? is it electrical?
also my transmission feels like the TC is staying locked during downshifts.
I will bet you a cold, adult beverage that it is the ABS sensor on the differential. Why do I think that? I just had a similar problem and replaced the ABS sensor and it solved the problem. Here is the info you need:
NAPA Part #: 530780
Name: ABS Sensor - Rear (AKA VSS sensor)
Cost: about $10.50
It sits on the top, towards the front of the differential (just above where the driveshaft connects) on top. One 1/2" bolt holds the sensor in place. Clean around the sensor with a rag, remove the sensor wire, remove the bolt, wiggle the sensor loose. Then stick the new sensor in (you need to wiggle it a bit to get the sensor all the way in. Put the bolt back in and plug the sensor wire on...
My speed sensor has acted up on a ocasional basis for 5 years, then when we were running hurricane relief after Katrina my ABS light would ocasionally flicker to the point it became steady. It has been on for 2 years now. So the day came yesterday to pick one up at NAPA for the above mentioned price more or less.
1/2 socket no problem. Wiggle until it was loose, no problem. Pry until it pops out......problem. The plastic housing that contains the magnet cracked and popped loose and remained in the rear end. Ok. Now I sweat. Looking through the tool box for something suitable to remove the plastic stub, I came upon a very aggressive sawzall blade. After a few pulls up on the blade. Wha-la. Success, the plastic cap popped out with the o-ring attached.
Moral: Be more patient in the removal process.
Few months ago light came on. Wheel Hub grenaded a few days later. Replaced hub with new ABS sensor, light gone.
Few weeks ago abs light came on for second time. I tried several small things I learned here to fix it. First I checked and cleaned the VSS sensor. I checked the 60 AMP fuse for the ABS system. Yesterday I finally broke down and bought the $10 sensor and low and behold, no more light. My bolt was 3/8in and a socket wouldn't work.
yea probably that sensor. mine is unhooked right now cuz I blew up the gear on the inside that it reads so now I have no speedo or abs but at least its not messing with my abs anymore like it was before i unhooked it
If The Light Stays On After The Sensor Was Changer Its The Abs Computer $1000 For That $1400 For The Touque Converter That Was Burned Up Because It Wasnt Locking And Unlocking While Towing , Light Still Comes On Once And Awhile For A Second Just Enough To Shut The Cruise Off Of Course After The Warranty Expired , Don't Tow With Light Abs Light On Tranny Dosent Know When To Shift Or Lock And Unlock Touque Converter, Its In Limp Mode [shift Light Blinking]
Apparently i have a bad habit of not following up on my posts, this is a really old post but i wanted to let everyone know that it was the Speed Sensor that Neil suggested, looks like i owe him a b33r
if you ever plan on being in the cincy area give me a shout!!
