My buddy's '96 Bronco has no Abs light come on indicating any problems. When coming to a stop from 5mph the truck pulls to the left and you can feel the Abs rapidly pulsating. The fronts have new Abs sensors {ring and pick-up}. Checked the remaining sensors on frame, master cylinder and rear plus scanned Abs system and no codes. When I disconnected one of the front sensors the Abs light comes on and the problem does not occur. The truck brakes fine without pulling to the left. Is there a possible chance that the Abs pump/motor be at fault here and not give me a trouble code? I'd appreciate any help.
My truck does the same thing...at 11mph the ABS starts to modulate, and at 4mph it stops. More than likely it is an improperly set air-gap between sensor and tone ring. The sensor may be faulty as well. I have not tore into mine yet, or even disabled it, but I did run the codes on a ford specific diagnostic scanner....no codes, basically the truck "thinks" that one wheel is locked-up. Try pulling the sensor off and reinstall it, or replace, should fix your problem.
Thanks for the replys. The bulb for the ABS light is functioning. The sensor and tone ring are brand new. I went thru spacing the sensor gradually and no change with problem. I suspect the ABS pump/motor but wanted a little more info before tackling this job.
My buddy was finally convinced to change the rotors. Bought a set from Ford and that solved the problem for the ABS. The ABS is functioning normal. For you guys out there with 4 wheel ABS and decide to replace the rotors, go with either Power Stop rotors which I have no problems with or go with O.E.M. rotors. There's something in those CHEAP rotors that is throwing the ABS sensor off. Hope this info helps for anyone in the future.
