I own a 1995 f-250,
It has a hick-up every time it is started. air temp, oil temp, nothing changes this rough idle except applying some throttle. Even if the engine is warm and air is warm, the vehicle can be shut off and restarted immediately and still runs rough for 5-10 seconds.
when you say runs rough, can your describe it in any more detail. Does it romp up and down like a huge cam in a gasser?
Click the "truck Video" link in my signature and play the video there of my truck Romping. Does it sound like that or just a normal uneven idle?
My dads 90 F150 does the same type of thing. i eblieve its the computer having to relearn itself or somethin like that. it revs up really high then it fixes itself and runs back to normal idle
mine has a automatic in it. If I am watching the gauges at the time of start-up it will run smooth for a second or two till the oil pressure gauge registers then it act like one injectors isn't firing the same as the others. if the air temp is 10-20 deg f. some times it will kill the engine. The power is good but possibly missing a bit. going down the road, you can slightly feel it when the converter is locked-up. I presently own a 2002 ps also. I have owned 7 in my time. I REALLY like em.
It sounds real similar maybe not as deep and less time between romps. It also idles around 550 rpms if you bump the throttle to say 600 rpms it doesn't miss at all. thanks
I plan on checking fuel psi at the schrader valve this weekend and increasing it if need be, "not above 80" correct. Iwould also like to add a reistor to my icp but if there is a chip in this pick-up I dont want to screw it up. I use it every day for work.
I am not positive but I think it is located on your rear end housing on the top. I will look into this. Some one with more knowledge will be along shortly.
the trans range sensor is held on by two bolts on the left side of trans. where the shift cable hooks up . you can try to adjust first see that helps if not replace it .
how can the transmission range sensor make the idle erratic? And by adjusting this will change the way the trans. shifts? It seems to me that the trans. is slowly starting to shift layter all the time. It usually wont shift till app 2,000- 2,200 rpms no matter how slow and easy you take off.
THANKS VERY MUCH
I will tell you that my 97 truck idle jump up and down all the time. I would step the gas and hold it little bit and It goes back to normal. So I replace the trans range sensor never did it again. I think the computer can't read what gear it in so it does crazy things. I know if the trans range sensor is way out of adjustment the trany goes into limp mode shift harder. good luck
Same problem with mine. Rough kinda hick up type of idle for 5-10 sec, most of the time I tap the fuel pedal and it will smooth out. And it does not do it every time. I have manual trans still running fac flywheel. Reading on the forum I suspect the flywheel being the culprit.
My 96 does this at start up tap throttle and it leves out I thouhgt this might be normal until oil pressures were up. Mine also is shifting odd,1-2 seems long while loaded (to me) and empty it almost goes straight from 2 to 4 w/o barely hitting 3rd.The guy who rebuilt tranny thinks I might have accumulater spring or springs broken, but he only rebuilds on bench doesn't get under.Rebuild was 15 months ago- 30000.Oh-yea it also got a Tras-go shift kit.
