I found what I thought was a good deal on a 2001 SD IC locally so I picked it up. It came with the stock pipes and boots, but I was kind of disappointed to see that it had plastic end tanks. I thought I read somewhere that the 7.3's were all metal and the 6.0's were plastic ends.
Has anyone run thermocouples to see how much temp drop you see across the IC in real life? After looking at the smallish looking 3" pipes, it seems like quite an airflow impedance to put into the system compared to the 4" intake and exhaust, but even Banks uses 3". Anyone successfully made an intake spider from scratch? Those things are spendy and I need one.
The early superduties were metal and the later 7.3's IC's were plastic as well as the 6.0 coolers. 3" IC pipes are plenty for our engines. Even the huge HP guys run 3 inch I have seen a few with 3.5 and 4 but most of them are still 3".
Don't know the temp drop at the intake but it equates to 100-200 degree drop in the exhaust sometime up to 300 claimed drop.
Y from scratch, not personally but i have pics of them made from the stock y which I was going to do till I found a banks unit.
call the dealer anyway and when they tell you its been discontinues tell them to put it on the us locator, then any dealer that has one in stock nationwide will show up and they can give you their number, odds are you'll get it cheaper now that its discontinued and they will want it off their shelf
not sure if geoff still makes the ic kits i can check.
putting on sd intake plenums to use a sd "Y" is always an option and is probably pretty cheap. plus they are bigger so more airflow.
if i had the tools i could build some. i am sure someone has the tools on here.

I did that a few months ago and there were two dealers in TX that had some. called them and they didn't have any! none in the entire country that I could find. Maybe a few have appeared in the inventory though.
