Hey everyone...new to diesels and to this forum. Need some help here. Two hours into a trip back to jersey my 03 f 350 7.3 started losing power. I had the cruise control set and was cruising at 70mph, accelerated to pass a truck and got an engine light. After a few minutes it cycled off but then all of the sudden rpms came down and speed reduced with cruise on. turned off cruise and put the pedal to the floor and got nothing. Pulled over, checked things out and seemed to idle fine. Got back on the road and noticed there was a significant reduction in power. I also noticed that I didn't hear the turbo spooling up as I normally would. Pulled over again and still it idled fine, not blowing any smoke and no immediate signs of a catastophy. Decided to turn around and head back to SC cause the last thing I need is to be stuck in NC in the middle of the night. Cruised 2 hours at 60 mph and made it back safely but still no *****. Fuel and Air filter are new. Truck has 114,000 miles. All tubes and connections seem to be fine. Help!
A good start would be to read over this thread. Make sure you have no boost or exhaust leaks. Also, make sure the fuel pump is not getting ready to give up the ghost along with making sure you don't have a fuel supply problem from the tank to the pump.
Oh, welcome to FTE tentfactory. When was last oil change? Do you have a boost gauge and if so what are you seeing now vs before? Any mods? Any dash malfunction lights? It could go on and on but that is a good start. Again, check the other thread.
Hey thanks for the input, last oil change was the night before I left and oil level is fine. No Mods and at the current time no dash lights although I did get an engine light several minutes before the time of the loss. Don't have a boost gauge but my ear gauge says 0 when I had a full ten before. (lol). Trying to have a little sense of humor. I'm going to check for a possible fuel issue and read the thread. Thanks again! Any other input would be helpful as well.
i had the same problem but my problem was one of my intercooler pipes blew off i duno if you checked that but it sounds like a major boost leak somewhere tighten all of your intercooler boots hope this helps
Ok, so after the last post I took my truck to a friend/ mechanic. He thought that maybe the exhaust was clogged not allowing exhaust gas to escape resulting in low boost. Ordered an exhaust, had it overnighted, installed it and things seem to be okay. Hooked up the trailer and off I went back to jersey. Still felt like I was pulling a train!! Kept going and within the first hour stopped for fuel. Got back on the road and about 10-15 miles later I felt like I had my truck back, great power and it ran perfect all the way to Jersey. Great right must have been the fuel... Got on the road back to SC and everything was great...right up until about an hour from home and all of the sudden again cruisin along at 70mph...the engine light and a total loss of power and a rough engine idle. Pulled over and the thing was smokin and runnin like crap. Eventually the engine light cycled off but still back to square one with my truck running like crap. No problem with the turbo. I read that egt forum and don't quite get it. Any help??

If the SES light came on, then there could be a code stored. Get the codes read (do not go to autozone or ohter place that says they read codes) you need to go to a place that can read ford Diesel codes I am betting it might be a under valve cover harness but we still need to know what the codes are.
Please tell me a little more about this uvch and how after six hours of flawless operation it would throw a code and the engine into misfire. Just curious, as mentioned I'm new to the diesel world. Thanks!!
Hey Everyone...so I went ahead and serviced the ipr and uvch (not that hard to do)plus changed the oil. I still have a complete lack of power. I took it out for a ride and while it runs well there is no *****. I don't have an ses light. Before I did everything I had the computer scanned and it gave me the p1211 code for the ipr. What now???
Man, I would say you need to have the ICP duty cycle and pressure checked, then you definately want to check your fuel pressure, not just at idle either.
I would check both for you but you are not nearby. Good luck.
