i have an 86 f-150 with a 302 efi, im looking to increase the torque on the engine itself without goin too expensive at the moment. im lookin more for low end torque than high end. any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. thank you.
#1 longer or thinner exhaust tubing! (2" instead of 3") I know everyone wants the fat exhaust but it's only good for top end!
#2 longer intake (spacers ) not much of an improvement!
#3 lower gearing!
Outside the motor, the only thing worthwhile is longtube headers and a single 2.25" exhaust system(on that motor). Replacing the cam would make the biggest difference overall, and it's cheaper than the exhaust system, but requires a bit more work.
what kind of cam would u recomend to replace it with? i read that a true dual free flowing exhaust would do wonders for low end torque...wat would b better? the duals or single?
single thin exhaust for torque! Dual big diameter pipes for horsepower! You want more back pressure for torque. Look for a cam with good low rpm numbers (rv/towing) What kind of exhaust do you have now? You could also add longer tubing to your throttle body from the air box maybe move it to a cooler place while you are at it. I am going to do this myself when I get around to it since my air cleaner is right on top of valve cover too!
right now for exhaust i have stock manifolds down to the stock cat n than i have 3 inch straight pipe leadin into a 3 inch in/out glasspack n than dumped right before the rear axle. movin the airbox sounds like a good idea but there aint a whole lot of places to move it to. wouldnt it b better to get an aftermarket air intake like k/n n install that instead of movin the airbox?

Congratulations, that's the worst possible combination. You want 2.5" max and you need to loose all the stock parts.

The stock air box is a cold air system, it draws from outside the engine bay. Changing it won't make any noticable difference compared to the cam swap or the headers, don't waste your time.
k im plannin on getin longtube headers, cam, m a k/n filter to flow better...now wat would b best for a the rest of the exhaust system....headers n 2.25 piping but would a cat help with torque or no n wat kind of muffler should i use?

I shouldn't chuckle... you could have been nicer!!??!! Coming from me, I guess thats the kettle calling the pot black!

Compared to the cam and header swap no. But with a bit of ingenuity you can most certainly improve it. This is not achieved by any aftermarket part that I am aware of though. You better be willing to fabricate.
should i keep my 3 inch glasspack n have the headers y into that n than from that run it down to 2.5 inch exhaust or should i just get a smaller diameter glasspack?...im also thinkin bout gettin a gibson exhaust system, has anyone used gibson before n if so wat are ur reactions to it?
