Hi! everybody, I have a 2000 4.2 V-6, manual transmission. While driving like for two hours at speeds of 70 to 80 MPH, I started feeling a "Miss" everytime I would try to accelerate like to pass someone, it's more like a hessitation or a miss, kind of like a rev limiter would do, only that it would go away (after a few seconds), it does it once the engine is warmed up and most of the time at part throttle. My truck has only 18000 miles. Thanks for your help. PS: No troble code has been set.
It was the IAC valve( the one the control the idle speed) that was sticking. Later it started to develop a rough idle, so I took it to the dealer and they fix it. Now is working excellent.
What is the IAC valve and where is it located?
Because:
I'm having the some problems! I find if I don't toouch the gas when starting in the morning it will start fine. I have been experiencing very sluggish take off. I can barely make it up my drive way. If step on the gas hard when in Neutral I will get some popping (backfiring). I brought it to Good Year (mistake) and they said change the Wires and Plugs after paying them $83.00. I've since doone that and it is getting worse!
Please help me with my 97 f-150 4x4 4.2 liter engine.
Scott
P.s. is the fuel line pressurized, Can I just change the filter?
The IAC Valve is on top of the fuel injection manifold, its a cylinder held on with 2 bolts and a plug. Very simple to install Ford wanted to charge me $250 to replace, I paid $65 for the part and took a minute to replace.
I have a 97 F150 4x4 and had alot problems I installed a poweraid throttle body extention, Taylor low resistance plug wires, and Gibson Super truck exhaust and what a difference.
I doubt the iac is the problem, it only affects idle quality. The fuel line is pressurized. Let the motor idle, then pull the fuse for the fuel pump. This will depressurize the fuel line. You need a special little tool to remove the fuel filter, but its very cheap and you can get at any parts house.
