Sorry, I am not familiar with the chips for this one. Sounds promising to be able to do with the ECM. I would ask for the charts of what it will give you, and if/how you can tweek from there. You might check around for someone for familiar with this setup than I am.

The first thing I would do is change your rear gear to something around 3.73 or 4.10. This will help get your truck moving quicker. Also make sure your engine is in good tune. A true dual exhaust will also help, don't go to big on the piping. Something around 2" or 2 1/4" will be about right. Headers are a toss up right now at your power level.

Why go thru all the trouble with dual exhaust then only install a "H" pipe,
go with an "X" pipe.
You looking for just baby steps in torque increases, why not do the exhaust then add a centrifgual blower. All additions added outside the motor that can be removed or sold later. JMO's.

I second the X-pipe but as for headers?I think the onlyreal purpose of a set of shorties is a little better flowing, sound, and the ability to be a bolt on swap no mods.......if you waant the torque...get the long tubes...they should give you what you want.Tim is right....set the initial timing to around 15...from there it's a pretty much trial/error kinda thing......if it starts to ping retard it a little bit to where it ain't...lock the dizzy down then rev it a few times...make sure it's where you want it then take it around the block...if that doesn't get you what you want then take her back home and retard it/advance it a little more until you find that sweet spot.....That chip?I'm assuming they were telling you about the plugnplay JET chip...yea...all it's gonnado is adjust your timing through the ECU and do like you said......I'd rather take the time and adjust my timing myself and spend that 200-300 bucks on something else....besides...you might be able to get your motor to sound lopey doing the adjusment manually....JMO
