I just brought back my Excursion from South Carolina after having the transmission repaired (failed while on lan to a friend taking his son back to college after no previous signs of trouble). I came the conclusion after some wierd oscillation my wife managed to get going over a bridge on an Interstate that it is high time I replace the shocks.
I was reading some of the previous posts on the subbjedxt and it sounds like the Bilsteins are very popular for replacing the shocks and I also so a consensu that adding a Helwig rear sway bar is a good idea.
I have Question on the Sway Bars. I see that Hellwig offers both a rear sway bar and a larger front sway bar. Mots of the posts sound like people mainly add the rear sway bar since there is none on the Excursion now. Has anyone also added the new front sway bar? Wnay thoughts on that?
I replaced the OE front sway bar with a Helwig. The mechanic that did the work for me said the Helwig was quite a bit more substantial - heavier and thicker. I don't know if that's true or not.
