Most race teams including NASSCAR use it. (In fact I would be surprised if even 1 team didn't use it) WHen you are puling upwards of 180 to 200 degrees off the tires any moisture in the tire would turn to steam and cause the tire pressure to rise out on the track. Then when you drive into a long shaded patch where the asphault is cooler, the tire expels some heat into the asphault and with shrinks. Nitrogen gives the tire more consistency when the temp varies. This is especially true when you are slamming it into the curves. I have never checked the temp of passenger car tires going down the hiway but I doubt they get near as hot as what is on a racecar.
