auxillary idle control module

I have a '96 F350 7.3L and I just purchased an aicm over the internet and I have found that plug (male side) from the unit will not plug into the harness (female) under the dash. It is just slightly bigger.

My question is this. Does anyone know if the plug harness on early 7.3's is differnt from later models and if that is the case, can I splice in a newer harness connector and will it work as indicated?

You thoughts and comments are most welcome.

Yep, they are different according to the repair manual but the wiring is the same. The 96 (2 wire) is different from the 97 (3 wire). The only difference is the black wire (ground) is missing from the 96. The 99 is different too and goes to a multiplex network.

Take a look at the wire colors:
Black (Ground)
Tan w/Orange stripe
Pink w/ Light Blue stripe

If these colors are the same on your AICM cut off the connector and splice them together.

If you have a 99 AICM you will need to splice in a fused (10 Amp) power supply. It's Violet w/ red stripe and ground the black wire.
