You had the tranny shop install this upgrade? And the other stuff, too, right? Do tranny shops do this kinda stuff on a regular basis or did you take your tranny to "performance" tranny shop?
I just did my tranny at a local tranny shop. I had an aluminum planetary that looked like the one in that picture....the splines were stripped out of it. My tranny guy said it was because the oil goes to the rear planet last, so if the fluid gets weak, low or if the pump wears, then the rear planet and clutches don't get lubed well enough. It was rebuilt with all steel six pinion planets, increased count on all the clutch packs, better valve body, shift kit, billet triple disc TQ, pump modifications, etc, etc. The internal parts to beef up the E40D are readily available and pretty much any tranny shop can and very likely has done them. Find a reputable shop, talk to the tranny guy and see how you feel about what he says, and go from there.
I have no problem with the high dollar popular brands of super stout trannies. But, for many of us that won't ever drag race or sled pull, or don't plan to build 400-500 HP motors, a well build tranny from a local shop will work perfectly for us.......for quite a bit less $$.
