this cover will work on 1980-current 250 and 350 pickups. it will fit any sterling axle that was used during those years.

Did they all come with the sterling axles? How can I find out if I have one? Sorry about the dumb questions but I am going to try and change my fluid this week and I might as well put on a new cover if it will fit mine. I am going to use royal purple fluids, is this alright for our trucks, what weight of oil?

yes your truck has a sterling so the cover will fit. RP fluid is good. Its what I run. Can't remember what weight. its not what Ford recommends but it works great.

Damn, I should remember this, but I don't. Did Ford use Sterling axles on dually's at that time? Or were they Dana axles?

I think they are Dana's but that may only be the f-superduty/F-450 and the vans had Dana's

IIRC, the SD's use D80's in the F350 dually's and D135's in the F450's. I don't remember on the OBS's.

Ok my diff is 12 bolt and it looks like it should fit. It looks like the one in the pic above. I looked on the door and the axle code says D5. Is this a posi or limited slip? How much fluid does it hold with the new cover?

your diff should be a 4.10 with limited slip if I remember correctly. it will hold between 3 and 4 quarts. the new cover doesn't hold any more oil but I think the capacity is like 3.5 quarts or close to

The royal purple has the modifier included in the formula. but it may need some more if it chatters.
