Okay I’ve put the converter into my trans mission getting ready to reinstall my tranny. My Hanes manual says to rotate the converter while pressing down until the clicking stops and the converter feels seated securely. I didn't hear any clicking but It did "clunk" each time the converter slipped down onto the shaft (about three times). The converter is setting down into the extension housing as far as it will go but still has a little wobble to it; the weight welded to the back side of the converter scrapes on the extension housing if I put side pressure on it and rotate it.
Is My converter engaged in the pump gear enough to install the transmission or do I need to try again?
when i did this the first 2 or 3 times, the tranny would almost be against the motor and the converter would slip forward.then i would have to reset the converter and start over. so i made a small bracket that would hold the converter in place until it touches the flywheel.the bracket that i made has a hole in one end to bolt to the bell housing where the dust shield bolts on. the other end has a u-shaped hole for one of the converter bolts. the u-shaped hole is so that you dont have to put a nut on it and when the converter bolt is in the flywheel, you just remove the dust cover bolt and slide the u-shaped hole off of the converter bolt. this helped a lot.
Thanx for the advise. I got the tranny installed with out any problems with the converter. Some other day I'l do the transfer case and drive shafts. I noticed that after I pulled the trany out of the truck and while I was reinstalling it I lost a lot more fluid (alot of that extra fluid cam from the converter). Do I need to do any thing special about replacing fluid?
