Torque Converter

On my 95 F150, I know the torque converter is going bad. It shifts through all the gears, including overdrive. But, come to think about it, while driving just the short distance that I did, since I bought it a short time ago, I do believe I noticed a little bit of a hard shift. Anyway, while sitting in park it sounds like a bees nest. I did put a stethoscope to the bell housing and confirmed that the noise was coming from there. I know that when the torque converter goes, it's going to leave me sitting on the side of the road. My question is, will they last a while like this, or is it something that needs to be replaced right away?

Automatic transmissions in these trucks are fully computer controlled so you would be well advised to check for codes before jumping to conclusions.

Well, There's no check engine light on, and I recently did some engine repair. But, after I replaced the 2 sensors that triggered the codes, I disconnected the battery, and cleared the codes.

I did purchase a Dodge D50 several years ago, that was making the same noise. I was told by the seller, that the torque converter was bad. I replaced the converter, and the noise went away.

More then likely it is the front pump whining. These trannys tend to be a bit noisy anyway as long as it is shifting ok and the fluid looks and smells good. Drive it.
