My 1994 Ford Explorer has been stalling on idle. My mechanic replaced the hoses to the EGR valve, checked the valve and said it appeared ok. He thought he fixed the problem but it is still happening. I just did a scan and pulled code 336 - EGR sensor voltage higher than expected. Do you think I should replace the sensor?
the sensor will not make it die. your egr valve is prob. getting stuck. that could make your engine die. when it is idling fine disconect the vacuum line to the egr valve. the check engine light will come on, but drive it around to see if it dies. if it don't die then change the egr valve
the sensor reads what the egr valve is doing. the sensor will not make the engine die. but if your valve is stuck open then to much exhaust is in there, and not enough air. so it will die. the sensor is prob. working right, it is telling you the the valve is open when it shouldn't be (stuck open)
Elmo, thanks for the replies. I finally took it back to my mechanic and it turned out to be a bad fuel pressure regulator. Seems the spring was sticking and when I stopped produced a too rich condition causing the car to stall. That is probably what also contributed to the sensor to get a high reading.
