I am looking to free up my exhaust but not wanting it too "throaty". I know it will beef up a little but would like to keep it as quiet as possible. Any ideas?
mike,
gibson makes a good sounding exhaust system the side swept system looks alot like factory and is not real loud you can get it thru summit racing for $289 .99 a catback system part # at summit is Gib -319652 hope this helps you
I believe the 289.00 unit is aluminized steel. If your going to replace the stock stainless system, I'd recommend going the extra to install a stainless upgrade.
I just installed a magna flow staight through muffler, using the stock 3" pipe out the side. Sounds just right, not to loud in the cab, and just enough noise when you drive down the street. It does not sound like a V8(I had a chevy before with a flowmasters)....?
Thanks everyone for your input. Someone in another thread had a link to an F-250 V10 with the Gibson and it sounded pretty good.
New question: Anybody know what the Banks costs? Power-pack or Stinger? If I plan to go to a chip and a cat-back and K&N FIPK(or equivalent) would it really save to go with the Gibson or by the time I buy all the pieces, am I really in the same neighborhood as going with a Banks system??
Thanks again for everyones help on this stuff. I am new to the V10 and will likely have a lot of questions along the way.
I've not priced the Stinger kit, but the Powerpack can be purchased for around $1200. One could probably put something together for less money, but it might not be of the same quality as the Banks system. Then again, it might be better! ;-)
Will the Stinger sound the same as the Power Pack (more or less)? I am trying not to get to racey sounding if at all possible. I just found a Stinger for $504 which isn't bad at all to me but the Power Pack isn't quite the sound I am looking for(but I've only heard it on sound files). So if the Stinger would sound the same, I may opt for the Gibson.
I'd bet the Stinger is a little more quiet but not necessarily a lot more quiet. Headers (of any brand) usually add a little "rumble" to the exhaust note. Unfortunately, I've not found any sound clips of just the Stinger... but I'd bet a thorough search of the 'Net would turn something up.
