run a little lighter oil, go easy on the gas, don't run your RPM's up, shift at the right time, drive like a trucker: gain speed on the downhill, and coast as far as possible on the uphill.
make sure you're cats and mufflers aren't clogged up and consider upgrading to headers, or EFI manifolds, they offer less resistance and increased performance at the same time. replace your air filter. there are some who contend that side-gapping your spark plugs increases efficiency by burning more gas on each stroke (do a search for this, its a sort of hot topic right now). you'll notice your biggest increase by changing your driving habits...

QFT! I never realized how bad my driving habits were until I started driving my civic hybrid daily. It has things that just really makes you more aware of your gas mileage. I've started getting 17MPG in my Ram 1500 instead of the 14 I used to.
One of the biggest things that I can think of is get a tach if you don't have one already and keep an eye on your "cruising speed" RPM. If you're at 3k RPM cruising you're going to get horrible gas mileage! If you're doing 80 on the freeway simply slow it down to 65 and your gas mileage will go WAY up. On my civic this is the difference between 50MPG and 40MPG while in my truck I can get 17-18 on steady freeway driving at 65 instead of the old 14 from going 80. Obviously if your truck is geared right you can do 80 on the freeway efficiently BUT you won't be able to get there quickly.....
i have an 83, inline 6, np435, 3.55s, and 32 inch tires. when i first got it i'd get 12-16 mpg. i changed the fuel filter, flushed the tranny and rear ends (at 90k miles) and whammo, 19 mpg cruising at 70 mph (2500 rpm). then i built a bed cover for it out of wood and whammo, best yet is 23 mpg at 70-75 mph steady. id love to get an OD tranny for this thinig, get the rpms down to 2000 or so at 70. its a really efficient motor.
