Hello everyone! I need some help with my '76 F250. The windshield seal is leaking onto the drivers side dash and I need to fix it. On the outside, the rubber seal is well worn and cracked so I was just going to replace the seal on the windshield. I was looking at LCM truck and you can buy the whole rubber seal that goes around the windshield. Is this all I need? Or is there something else I need as well to fix the seal? It looks like there is only one seal, not an inside and outside seal, is that correct? Thank you for your help! BTW...can I do this myself?
Nate

I just did the windshield seal on my 1977 F250. Got one from NPD/Dennis Carpenter. Two types of seal are available, I used the single piece type, but a two part type that uses an decorative insert can also be had. I really takes two people to do the job, one inside one outside. The Ford shop manual has a good procedure. One area that can leak is where the roof meets the top of the window frame - I've been told by an old Ford assembly line guy that often this area was a problem and they often leaked from new. On mine the seam weld needed a little grinding to prevent a potential leak path under the windshield seal. You stand a 50/50 chance of breaking the old windshield if/when you try and reinstall it - old glass is more brittle. Use a razor around the outside of the old seal to cut it. The windshield will then pop right out. Use lots of lube when installing the new seal/windshield - I used clear electricians wire pulling compound I had on hand that I got from Home Depot. Dishwashing liquid, KY, etc. may also work....
Thanks for the info. It's leaking above the steering wheel on the upper part of the glass. At least thats where the water is dripping from. I just need to replace the window seal and the door seals before winter and wanted to save some money. This is not a show truck and its used in the winter primarily. I'm thinking about trying it myself for $45 for the seal and my time instead of $120+ for some auto glass place to do it. The windshield is not cracked and is in great shape so it doesn't need to be replaced. Hmm...

But if the auto glass place breaks it they bought it.
