When I bought my 98 gallon Transfer flow tank it's original purpose was to be installed in my '95 460 gasser. I took it out before I sold the truck and now it carries diesel.
But it was sold as a gasoline tank.
This may come under the Materials of Trade regulations found in 49 CFR section 173.6 as relates to a Class 3 hazardous material (gasoline).
Under that regulation you can carry up to 440 LBS of gasoline in a tank without placards. Based on the weight of gasoline of 6 LBS/gallon that would allow 73.3 gallons.
That being the federal ruling, the state and local ruling may be more strict.
Maybe I miss read the first post, but how do you get a v10 and only have a 26 gallon tank? Like stated earlier hwy 93 or hwy 50 would be a nightmare towing anything.

I would say you're on track with this find. Gas engined motorhomes have GAS tanks as large as 75 gallons. Look at the link for either Ford V10 or C***y 8.1 based fuel tank size.

If you have the short bed you get the small tank. Additionally, my neighbor has a 2000 with a V10 that is a long bed and he has never been able to get more than 26.xxxx into it. At one point he accidently ran the tank dry and still only got mid 26 gal into it. He believes that he got the small tank in the long bed. Just be aware that there are exceptions to the tank size rules.
I have seen gas motorhomes with tanks in the low triple digit range.
