HPOP = High Pressure Oil Pump. It sits in the valley of the engine below the fuel bowl.
Our injectors are driven by oil pressure, and fired electronically. This is known as HEUI (Hydraulic Electric Unit Injection). Oil pressure is what atomizes the fuel. When you have a chip or tuner, you can raise the amount of fuel and increase the oil pressure to give you more power. The downside to this is that most of the time the stock HPOP isn't enough to keep up with what a hot chip demands.
So when you hear of everyone upgrading their HPOP, it means that they are going for a big oil setup. The ones you'll see are Terminator, Stealth, BTS, and Swamps. Each one is a bit (or a lot) different, but generally accomplish the same thing. Increase oil pressure and volume to the injectors. It's not a cheap upgrade, but it sure will wake up any engine.
so with my dp tuner this hpop will help out a lot? i was looking at the swamp..is that a well known good brand..?
I doubt you will need that until you step up to bigger injectors and turbo. And before I get hammered, yes, it will help but not as much as when you upgrade to the aforementioned items. If you plan to go that route, then giddyup.

yeah, my g/f brother has a 6.0 and hes getting stage 2 injectors and I can't let him have a faster truck so Im going with the stage 3 so i figured an hpop is needed but wasn;t positive...and turbo soon or later...plus i want the swamp deisel performance sticker..
You'll have to accept the fact that he will be faster than you Kenny. WIth the type of rods you and me have in our engines, i wouldn't put a set of injectors in, or the way you drive, you'll be looking at a full engine rebuild which you don't have $$ for.

Then I'll hammer you now , in a non-sexual way
Upgrading the HPOP even on stock injectors can make a huge difference. My truck dropped .8 seconds off the 1/4 mile at the drag strip, and has tons of power in the upper RPM band. Before that, it would fall on it's face. Now that I've had live tuning this past weekend and Jody bumped the HPOP pressures to their max (now holding 3800 psi!!!!!!), I'm heading to the track this afternoon to see how much faster my truck is.
Also, sometimes when you upgrade injectors you end up using LESS oil. That's right, less. The stock injectors on our trucks are split shots, and most of the high performance injectors that are offered are single shots. Splits use more oil than singles, and when swapping out to singles suddenly the stock HPOP can keep up. Now upgrading the high pressure oil system can help both singles and splits, but you usually see a somewhat bigger gain on splits with higher oil pressure.
IMO getting a high pressure oil system is definately a great upgrade. As for how it compares to upgraded injectors? Well here's one for ya... The co-founder of the Colorado PSD Club owns a 2000 Excursion with a similar mods to mine including lift, but she's running injectors instead of an HPOP (I believe she has stage II's). She's running 15.2 @ 89 mph on custom tuning. Without custom tuning and my stock injectors I run 15.4 @ 86 mph, so I'm not far behind. Today I'll get to compare my time with custom tuning to see if I can beat her times. We'll see

You'll need to have Jody do a rewrite with 'big oil' burns.
As for the Swamps, I know of a fiery story...
Just do your research and be ready to spend a couple grand +/-.
It's money well spent. In the long run you'll be able to run whatever sticks you'd like. Of course, you'll then need a bigger hairdryer
And JT harvey runs 15.0 on stock injectors as well.
Indeed I do. And that's with off the shelf tunes too. I'd imagine if I had live tuning, times would drop below the 15's. The upgrade to dual HPOP's was one of the best mods I've done. The truck just drives and runs better throughout the whole RPM range. I got mine with plans to upgrade injectors, but knew there would be a benefit on stock injectors...I just didn't expect it to be as noticeable as it is.
