I'm trying to determine what rear axle is under a salvaged Ford truck I found. The truck is an 85, f250 xcab, long bed with the 6.9 diesel. The rear GVWR is 8500. The axle is a full floater and is about 65" wms to wms. The only marking on the housing I saw was "70-16u". I'm trying to determine if this is a Dana 60, 70 or even a Ford 10.25".
I went to a Ford parts dept but they said the truck was too old to get axle info from the VIN. Any help would be appreciated. John
VIN 1FTHX2513FKA72139

Thanks for the info. What exactly does the "u" mean, any idea? Also by looking at this link and the VIN https://www.ford-trucks.com/article/...de_Chart_.html
It appears that this axle has a 4.63:1 ratio. Am I reading this correctly. Thanks, John
Thanks for all the help guys. The Dana site is definitely helpful as well. Looks like I'm taking a ride out tomorrow to get the BOM off the axle and and to pull it off the truck. Thanks, John
