Cool how to test and replace fusable link

hi 1986 F-250 just wondering how i could test and replace a fusable link. do i just cut and splice a new one in. they are made of rubber not sure how to take them apart thank you

Pull on them. If you can stretch them, they are burnt out. You can also pierce the wire to check for voltage on both sides. You have to cut them completely out and solder in new ones you can buy at the store.

piercing wire to check voltage

just wondering do i put one end of voltmeter on each side of the fuse, and how many volts should i get. i pierced one end of the wire before the fusable link and got like .02 volts...how much should it read...thanks again

put one of you volt meter leads to ground and the other to a point on the link. You should have 12 volts on each side of the link.

A fusable link provides no resistance and is a "short" circuit, just like any other piece of wire.

thanks problem solved

well actually the problem was a melted wire at the solenoid, replaced the fusable link anyhow i think it was fried. thanks for all the help
