F100 Rear axle selection

I have just bought a 1975 F100, the problem is the ford 9 inch rear end is gone, but there is an Jeep AMC 20 CJ6 rear axle bolted to the leaf springs, but this axle is not wide enough it measures 58.5 inchs WMS to WMS but i think it needs to be approx 8 inches wider.
Can I make up the difference using 1.5 inch wheel spacers and wider offset rims or should I try and source a wider axle.
I'm in the UK and ford 9 inch axles are rare, most of them are on the back of drag cars.
Thanks in advance

Thats a lot to make up, I would try to get a wider rear end. The wheels and spacers may end up costing more than another rear axle and be safer. Just my opinion.

I thought about your problem after my first post and have another suggestion.Since you are in the UK , shipping from the states will be a lot. You might be able to use a later F series rear that are not 9 inch. The main problem other than finding one would be they may be too wide unless you have a flat bed on your truck. Thats the best I can think of right now, there may be some other rears that will work that somebody will help you with.

Thanks Jim for the response, what do you think about using a ford explorer 1995-2001 rear end, they are plentiful in the uk, they have LSD's, 31 splines shafts and disc brakes.

Still wont be wide enough if you are trying to match the standard track width.

well that sound like you will find that axle down at the drag strip !!

ever think about one from a f-250 ? that would be a dana 60 for that year .
or you could even go get one from a late 80s early 90s f-150 , that would be a 8.8 and they are just as strong as a 9 inch
