Ok, looks like some SD-er's roll in same areas I do. What is the deal w/ my 2008 AC? Does not blast me out like my 87 F150 did.
I'm displeased w/ the AC performance in this truck. It doesn't get much hotter than it does down here. I welcome any thoughts/suggestions short of trade-in or buy-another-brand.

You should update your profile to include your location so we know what you are refering to. Take a trip back to the dealer and ask to check out some of the other 2008's A/C. If they all blow the same then you're pretty much stuck, unless there's a way to upgrade the fan to something more powerful.
Haven't you heard of Global Warming? Pretty soon the SD's will come standard with paddle due to rising sea levels so don't sweat the heat.
From what I have read and my experience with R12 versus R134 AC systems...
The R12 systems were supposed to be a bit more efficient than the R134 systems so they would cool better assuming equal systems etc. My experience with the R12 cars in the past and the R134 now seems to bear this out. My older R12 cars(5 of them) felt cooler than my new R134 cars and truck since 94(4 of them). My 04 Lincoln barely keeps up with the heat in So Cal. My old R12 cars would often get too cold. I took my Lincoln in to the dealer last summer because of this, and he said it is fine, hmmm.
My example is no scientific proof, but I think R12 is better for cooling. Many would argue R134 is as good or better, but you would have to show me. Only cold R134 car I drove was a rental Dodge Neon last year, that baby was cold, ahhh, much better than my Lincoln.
Your new 08 could possibly be low on a charge, but that should be doubtful. Could just be more interior to cool, or Ford designed a system too small for the truck or R134 isn't as cold.
Don't worry, according to that movie a year or two back, the Day After Tomorrow, it should be cold enough for you soon and Mexico will be like Canada. Harrr.
I will say the AC in both SDs were underwhelming, to say the least. I would say "nature of the beast"..... (sorry)
My explorer AC, even with the aux cooling system, sux too....
Now, my 2007 GMC Sierra is a meatlocker on 97F+ days with 90%+ humidity, even at idle.
Compared with GMs that I am familiar with, anemic Ford ACs seems to be the rule.
My SDs, on hot days, at idle or low RPM, were blowing luke warm air. At highway speeds they were "ok" but nothing to brag about.
Could be worth a trip to the dealer to check it, but I have a funny feeling the response will be "well, it cools according to the Ford Spec"...
(trust me, I tried twice with my '03 SD, and no resolution... thus, the "nature of the beast comment")
Relative to previous posts, irregardless of the working fluid (refirgerant), ACs can be made to cool well as long as they are designed correctly, and designed as a COMPLETE SYSTEM. My hunch is that Ford, in a quest to maintain the maximum parts commonality between vehicles (cut costs), probably uses the same compressor for all/most of their vehicles. They'll work good in some, be a compromise in the others. The SDs have a large interior volume. If the interior is dark in color, that doesn't help either. It always seemed to ME that the compressors in the larger Fords (250, Excursions, etc) were undersized in terms of coolant flow rate and heat exchange capacity relative to the interior volume of the vehicle. The explorer has lots of interior volume as well. Thus, not great cooling capacity.
Same here, the a/c is pitiful in the 08 SD crew cab. The a/c and the mileage are the two things that have been a let down. It's a good reason to not buy the truck. The fan is weak, a/c is not even cold even on recirc. There are no air vents in the back seat for the passengers so they bake during our lunch trips. I have put the a/c on manual control, recirc, fan at max, and vent toward front seats. My 05 F150 was bad, starting to think the F250 SD is worse. Yes, its been hot here in TN but I think my hair dryer can move more air. My buddy's 06 GMC 2500 HD CC Duramax will run you out it gets so cold and he's got a black interior truck.
i am very pleased with my SD's AC......but yeah pal i'd say has to do with the blower if it's not giving you enough breeze besides the freon if it's fully charged......
Try out the other one's in the dealer...see if it's the same ....you wouldnt know untill you try it yourself.... All of us can tell u yeah is good or is bad but your not feeling it......so go to the dealer like riggz say....
Why doesn't Ford utilize the same AC roof system in the SD as they do in the Expedition? Maybe the same reason they do not use the same headlights on the SD as they do in the Expedition. My 03 Expedition had rear air and it worked great. My O5 SD crew cab cools great in front, but the back it not so good. The headlights on my 03 Expedition would light up the night on high beam. The high beam on my SD sucks.
add a fan on the front of the cooling system. run it off rely wired to the on-off wire to the ac so the fan only runss when the ac is on. you may have to trim the back of the grill a bit to clear the fan. your ac will blow cold air even when the truck isnt moving.
