Well, First..Can someone please explain it to me LOL.
And 2. On my shifter lever of my 97, I have an overdrive switch at the end of it. It lights up OFF when I push it in. Sometimes, as I am driving, It starts to flash on and off. Any idea why it would? I just got the truck running really good. But, there is a slight kink in the transmission where it takes a while to shift outta 1st. Also a big hesitation from when i step on the gas.
You are going to have to have the codes checked on the Trans. The light flashing is letting you know that there is a problem. Especially b/c you know theres a problem also.
Basically overdrive means the output shaft is spinning faster than the input shaft of the transmission ( the output is being overdriven.) When the transmission is in Drive the input/output ratio is 1:1 in OverDrive it is somewhere around 1:.67.
When your truck shifts out of 1st can you tell if it is going into 2nd gear or is 2nd gear slipping then going into 3rd? Just before my trans. died it would hold 1st gear then when it shifted the rpm would go from 3200 down to 2100 (1st-3rd). But if I manually put it in 2nd it was fine. I believe those are the symptoms of a worn forward clutch which means rebuild.
It shifts into second, but if I am really punching it, I have to let off the gas inorder for it to shift into 2nd gear, It doesnt slip or anything, jjust takes a while to get into it.
