The same or slightly higher vacuume signals if you open up the lobe sep angle. It may move the power band down slightly though. Increasing the lobes separation lowers valve overlap (providing the duration remains the same).
One of the tricks in the early days of Nasscar was to grind a copy of the "Stock Cam" but close the separation angle. It increases the scavenging abilities of the engine and moves the power band up but when they check the cam it still has the same lift and duration as stock.
For a bit more money than a off the shelf cam profile most any cam company can grind you a cam with a more agressive profile.
For money reasons 99% of cam companys use profiles that can be used on ALL popular engines(Ford, dodge, and chev) The one with the smallest lifter (chev @ .842) means that the ramps cannot be as agressive as on a Ford with its bigger lifter.
Order you up a cam with .874 specific profile.
If mine I'd look for something around 212/224@.050 duration .530-550 lift 112Lobe sep. That should be better, but a lot less money than a roller setup.
The vacume will also depend on where you degree the cam at. and the lobe seperation.
The extra profile of a 874 profile over a 842 profile would not make a difference. But it will make a difference the hp and torque.
Wheather the difference is worth the money is up to you.
Very true. That is also why some teams would install "Mushroom lifters", esp. in a chevy. The mushroom lifter had a big bottom, but the housing was .842 inches. (you have to bore the underside of the block for clearance ) Doing this you could grind a more aggressive ramps into the cam and still have the same duration. With roller cam motors becoming more prevalent I have not seen a mushroom setup in a few years.
I should have mentioned for the most power with best vacum, If you have the funds Crane sells Hyd Roller set ups for FE engines. And the best vacum with a roller is a HIR grind.
(Hyd Inverted Roller) HIR profiles have to ground on manual cam grinding machines at a slightly slower speed. If not the follwer on the machine it will "skip" over the inversion on the master lobe. For this reason these cams are $50-$100 more than the regular roller cams. The example cam is not a HIR cam.
Crane cam #349521 has 220-226 Dur @.050 .584Int .607Exh 110 Lobe seperation. I think this one would be ok on the vacum, ....maybe. If you advace the cam some the vacume will get better. THe cam would have enough i think if you got it ground on 112 lobe seperation.

So what kind of $$$'s are you talking? That cam is HUGE compared to what I am running now!
It has been too long for me to remember how much. They can grind one with for instance
212-222 @ .050 (I am just guessing here) They have many, many other hyd profiles.
here are the prices at jegs. Cam# 349521 $414.99, Lifters 35532-16 $499.99 ,pushrods are "special length required" lift figures in their catalog and on the cam spec card are for the non-adj rockers 1.76:1 adjustable rocker If I remember right were 1.73:1
I didn't think they were that high. Sorry if I got your hopes up.
the adjustables are 1.76 and non adjustables are 1.73.
try calling cam research corp. see what they have to say. they do all their own grinds and dont mind doing one out of the ordinary. tell them what you knoow about your build and what your doing with it. they can tell you where you will flow the best at what lift and duration. they have done all the flow tests with different head combinations. www.camresearchcorp.com or 303-762-0022 prices are comparable to the rest of the competition. they specialize in fords
Ya good try. Its is only about $200 a race for first place. Then gas...food...ect. I already have over $6k in my 428. I was wondering if it would be better to go with a stroker as far as the money???? I am hoping to pick up some sponsers to help. I think the truck is doing good enough now to get a little interest. I have ran neck and neck with the #4 & #5 points leaders all season. I just havent traveled enough to collect the points.
