need fe veteran knowledge

ok guys i got some questions for you. so it turns out i have a 428 std bore block. it has trw2245 pistons in it, im running a 268 comp cam, edelbrock rpm intake, a set of cobra jet heads ported polished bigger valves decked .010 and blended. msd distributor, hooker comp headers, 750 edelbrock carb. i am running a regular felpro gasket for a 390, dont even know if it will work with 428. what i would like to know where my hp and tq should be at. also how can i tweak more horse power out of it. should i balance crank, rods, and pistons, deck the block? the heads were used on a pulling truck with mechanical roller cam.

First off, definitely balance the engine. Have your cylinder walls, pistons, rods and crank checked. Since the heads have been milled, check intake for alignment issues. Deck the block only if it needs it. Remember milling the heads and decking the block will probably require milling the intake for alignment. If your heads were set up for a roller cam, the springs will be a much higher spring pressure than you would need on a Mechanical flat tappet cam. Cobra jet heads can't take much larger valves than the 2.09 intakes and 1.66 exhausts. Most people will use a 2.15 intake maximum, for durability. Horsepower and torque will vary with compression. It sounds like you have the potential for a nice engine. I have bored 428's out to a maximum of 4.17 with no problems. I would recommend that if you have to bore the block, bore it to the least amount to clean up all the bores. There are many other things you need to do, if you want to race your engine. Oiling modifications on your block are a must above 6500 rpm.

I agree with everything travelrest says, except for one thing: You don't need to mill the intake, if you mill the heads correctly. The intake side of the head can be milled to match the block side, and an unmilled intake will fit just fine if done right. The only problem is the cork/rubber end-gaskets, and then those should just be RTV anyway

What Krewet said is correct, but then you have a head that only works with that setup. It is better to alter the intake, than the heads, for many reasons.
