what is the best cam lift and duration i should look for when picking out a cam for my 390 i want it to be a performace cam and if i get a new cam do i have to get new lifters to, i have a cam that hasnt been used before and ots a performance cam but i do not know the specs on it, how can u check to see what the lift and duration is on it, any info would be great thanks.
You can check the lift with a set of dial calipers, but the duration would require installing it in the block and then checking the duration with a degree wheel. Are there any Id markings on that cam?
yes heres some markings i can see off the camon the end of the cam orwards the back it says SF 63 same place on the back side it says B 16 theres a marking in the middle of the cam that says C2 and on the other side of that theres CC and thats all the markings i can see now but when i measured the lobes on the cam at the shop they were much bigger than the stock one i took out.
If you don't know what cam it is, don't use it
You need new lifters with each new cam
If you take a cam out, take the lifters out and place them in a box with dividers and mark them, as you can reuse those lifters with that cam.
Id go with the crane 901 as most people are running
I have a Crane came in my truck and I love it
Is the cam I got. Chugs just a bit... More in gear
Runs great, great low end power
The 941 may or may not work with your stock non-adjustable things. It's been discuessed here, but for the safety of things I went with the 901
Some say they can run one with the 941 lift, some say they couldn't
Originally posted by fordman428 ok i found the the, witch cam should i get the 901 or 941 same price 109.99, and wheres the best place to get cheap headers.
The Crane 272 degree Energizer is also a good choice for your truck and Summit sells it for $130 for the cam & lifters.
Wrong, Jegs does not sell that cam for 109.99 WITH lifters
I thought so myself, but it came with no lifters, called them up and they said it was cam only
Buy them from a local parts store. I paid 55 for a set of lifters for it
