I used to burn about a quart every 3500-5000 miles. I switched to Valvoline MaxLife and haven't seen a drop missing yet. I'm at 3,000 on my current OCI

V-10 OIL

My V10 is in a 2000 RV, namely Pace Arrow motor home. I just changed oil and filter. I put 5W40 in but then read on this forum that only 5W20 should be used.
I also want to know how many quarts of oil capacity the V10 has. Some say 6 and others 7.

Id run 5w20 or 5w30. I only run 5w20 in mine. I'd run 7 quarts, or you are technically 1/2 quart low. Although I'm not sure if oil capacity is different in your RV. What year is it?

My RV is a 2000 model so I assume the V10 is a 2000.

I'd run through the Owners Manual to find an exact measurement, but if anything buy 7 quarts and drop at least 5 in and check the dipstick.

Thanks Mike. That is what I did. The dipstick reads almost full on the hashmarks with 6 quarts. I think I am safe with that.

Wow! I had that 2002 for 9 years & it's EcoBoost replacment for 2 years.....what a post revival!

I occasionally see my former truck driving around. I was hoping to find the owner on this site.....How many Island Blue & Silver V10's running around with a MRBP Cool Duals Exhaust?

Oil capacity

I went through this when I got my 1999 RV. The dipstick had a "T" handle, and read a quart low, or at the bottom of the hash marks with 6 quarts. Ford replaced it with a dipstick that had a circular or loop handle, which they said was the correct one for that V-10 engine. It now reads full with 6 quarts.

Thanks! That explains a lot. I just checked my V10 after a 200 mile run (after oil change and 6.5 quarts) and it reads 3/4 on the hashmarks.
However, I will have to say the oil in this engine was very, very black when I first changed it, so I do not know how many miles over the limit it had been driven. It looks nice and clean now.
Thanks again for your explanation.

I changed the oil in my 99 Holiday Rambler last October with 5w20 synthetic "blend" as my Autozone person recommended. After we got on the road I thumbed through the owners manual for the chassis and it stated 5w30. My question is would it be best to change the oil before taking a trip in a couple of weeks across TN where it may get 100+ degrees as it did today? I'm sure the oil doesn't have more than 2000 miles yet.

You can go to www.bobistheoilguy.com for any oil related questions, but the short answer is not to worry, it won't make that much difference. Tally ho.
