Oil Capacity

What is the oil capacity (with Motorcraft Filter) of the '02 V10?

Manual says 6 qt's. Dipstick is hard to read. I put in 6 qt's & it looks like it's within the marks....pressure's good also.

If I remember correctly there was a dipstick inaccuracy on some of the V-10 dipsticks. I can't recall exactly which ones were wrong, and what the fix was. I believe all the posts were in the V-10 section. But it's early Monday, and I can't quite get more than 1 brain cell to move quite yet. I will do a search and get back to you with what I find, later today.

Oil Capacity

Early motorhomes and vans equipped with the V10 got dipsticks that were too short. (A malady that many truck OWNERS suffer from but try to fix by lifting thier trucks. It never really helps though.)

...back to the oil capacity.

The manual says 6. I put in 6.5 quarts at oil change time and get the level just below the top hash mark.

The dipstick is a pain to read, I read it from the back, not from the side where all the hash marks are. I find it is easier to read.

pull you dip sitck out then turn it up. and watch closley where the bulge of oil starts is the leavle. it will flow flat until that point. I put 6 in and it is in the middle of the hash marks.

Oil Capacity

Talked to my local service writer at the Ford dealer about this and he told me that 6 qts. is correct and when checking the level as long as the oil is within the hash marks on the dip stick it is considered full.
I'm not sure I agree with him on this because my truck (V10) when I do an oil change the 6 qts. brings the level to the bottom of the hash mark. If I add another qt. it brings the level to the top of the hash mark. I try to keep the level mid point in the hash mark.

just did oil again w/filter change in my 2001 motorhome w/V-10, and it took 7 quarts to get it read full on the dip stick. 6 was at the bottom has mark even after I started it and ran it for 30 seconds. I never had to put more than 6 quarts in my truck tho.

I've always put 7 in and puts 3/4 on the hash mark.

Wow, I didn't even look at the dates. I think there should be one of those smiley characters giving CPR for threads that have been revived.

6 Quarts in my V-10 on 2000 RV hardly reads on the hashmarks. I am wondering, is this enough oil, or should I put in 7.
Will 7 overfill and cause a problem?

The true amount of oil per the Owners Manual is 6.5 quarts with filter. I run 7, a little more is better than less. 1/2 quart will make no difference. On my 05 7 quarts measures at the top of my hash marks on the dipstick the day after a change

I've been using 7 quarts on my V-10 and my wifer's Lincoln LT 5.4 ever since 2006 for her and 2007 for my V-10. Why worry about 1/2 a quart too much?? I never have needed to add any oil to either engine even up to 8,000 miles on an oil change. Interesting that both the 5.4 and the 6.8 both use the same oil capacity. I just sent in an oil sample to Blackstone for both engines and got a clean bill of health on both. The 5.4 has 60k and my 6.8 is just turning 120k.
