It was great! The truck hummed right along. In that week and a half I put right at 5K miles on it. I changed the oil two days before I left and had to change it again after I got back LOL.
It got down to mid 40's or so last night- thank goodness I had added that cord too- almost didn't make it to work! LOL!
If you are serious you need to go have your truck looked at, you probably have injector stiction issues. It should have no problem at all with 40 degree weather without a block heater. I went last winter without a block heater at all and had a week where it was below zero when I left for work. The truck turned over slow and ran rough for a minute, but it never failed to start. I beleive Ford recommends plugging the heater when it gets to 10°F, and says it must be used for -20°F.
Does seem ridiculous it's not simply included on EVERY Diesel truck! I've never had any probs starting my truck without it plugged in. I just simply cycle the glow plugs a second time......seems to run just fine after the first 30 seconds or so. I do think that every powerstroke is different though. My 97 didn't like to start once it got below 15 degrees unless it had been plugged in.
