no biggie at all..... just cut the cord right at the plug and go to homedepot an get an all weather outside plug. i replaced mine last winter and i'm not 100% but i think its just three wires that need to be tied in.....
For the wiring challanged..... Can someone pull up a diagram or something to show where each wire would go on the plug? Also if you could find a SKU or something for a certian plug to use? That way I can save myself 20 bux and not have to pay a friend to do it lol. Thanks!
I just did a heater cord mod and if I remember, the factory cord is a 3 wire in a flat arrangement.the middle conductor should be the ground..For the other wires ,I cut one at a time and tested continuity across the snipped plug end and hooked up accordingly. The wider spade of the plug is the neutral and the narrow spade is the "hot".You do want to keep the polarity straight.
If you look really closely at the cord it tells you which is the neutral. The middle wire is green. Follow Duanes instructions above and you will be good.
It's a resistor. Technically, it doesn't matter which side is hot or neutral. But do it right. Small spade (if you buy a polarized plug) is hot (black), large spade is neutral (white), and ground is obviously the round one at the bottom (green or no insulator). Never been into the cord, but I would hope it has the standard colors in there.
Years ago my cord shorted out from rubbing on the front bumper. If I remember right the colors should match, ie white to white, green to green, etc. You could always get a multi-meter (or borrow) and as you look at the plug, match each wire one at a time on the new plug. Don't forget to make it water tight when you are done.
I installed a Marinco plug in the bumper. You just drill a hole in the bumper and mount it in the hole. Very cool. I'll link some pics when I get home tonight.

This is a mod that slipped my mind until now. Love to see how you did it and possibly where you purchased the Marinco plug.
