I am looking into adding a blower to my V10 soon. Do you know of any shortcomings of the auto trans? the SuperCharger Mfgs. seem to all dance around this issue.
Does anyone know if the trans can be improved in any way to hold up to the extra hp & torque of a supercharger??
FPS (Ford Performannce Specialists) outside of Atlanta is run by Doug Lewis, an ex-Ford Master Mechanic. Dealers from all around the US send him trnasmissions to beef up & rebuild. He can take any Ford and make a monster out of it. He custom beefed up transmissions for NOS and SC fwd SHOs.
According to Banks, our transmissions are good up to 1000 ft-lbs.
I'll look around for the article. Someone had a conversation with Gale Banks posted on their website somewhere. I'll find it and site it.
And here it is:

"...kevin : If the 4r100 can only handle close to factory spec torque (around 500 ft. lbs) how does a Banks system that protects the engine from dangerous levels of power take into account the rest of the drivetrain?
Gale Banks : A, We've done extensive testing. B, we have in-house knowledge from Ford engineers that the actual failure point of the internal components is in the 800-1000 ft-lb range...."

The banks guy told me the trany was very strong and had plenty cooling but very low line psi. that is what their transcommand unit is supposed to be for. It sences load and increases line psi to reduce slippage. does it work???? don't know but I may buy one to try.
I read the mag article. It is actually two (2) SC's on the engine and alot of serious drivetrain mods; i.e dif housing, axle, driveline, transmission. About a 20K mod.
