525HP boosted V10

Whipple superchargers has a system on the market that cranks out 525HP and 700 ft lbs. of torque from an otherwise stock Ford V10. Just for your info.

Ah you truck guys are so lucky, you get ALL the cool stuff. Imagine 545 HP and 700 lbs of twist ! That would be AMAZING !! Thanks for the update. There's several really good supercharger systems out there. Personally I like the Kenne Bell system. It provides the same amount of boost at every RPM, so you don't have to wait for the supercharger to 'wind up' to make power. The Magnacharger looks good also. And no, I am not affiliated in ANY way w/Kenne Bell or his organization. However I do read almost everything printed on Ford performance. And see that KB does massive amounts of research prior to letting the public have anything they offer. And what KB does with Fords is just phenomenal. They don't just throw a supercharger on a vehicle and call it good. They offer a complete handling, performance and looks package. I've always admired Reeves Callaway for his above and beyond the call of duty. Kenne Bell seems to be in the same vein. I've been looking into their new "Switch-Chip". It has all the inherent benefits of Diablo and Superchips with the ability to turn it on and off at will, and it's the same price as a play and play chip. I'm pretty excited about getting one and trying it out on my van. Cause us van guys have pretty slim pickins when it comes to performance parts. But I will say that Tony Wood @Banks is an EXTREMELY helpful guy. I have asked him probably 20 questions and he's always got an answer, or he'll find an answer. I'm working with Banks now for an exhaust system and Tony has been awesome. Let us know if you try the Whipplecharger and how it works please ? Thanks, Ken

wwwes,

No offense man, but where did you get those power figures from?!?

The '02 V10 is rated at 310hp/425ft-lb. Whipple's website claims "up to" 50% power increase. 50% of the above quoted figures are 465hp/638 ft-lb - still a lot but not close to what you're quoting. Please correct me if I'm wrong...

I did a quick search for superchargers. And found; Allen, Jackson, Kenne Bell, Paxton, Powerdyne, Procharge, Vortech and Whipple. I didn't even get into the biggest supplier for race cars, which is BDS (Blower Drive Service, because they're really not sold as "street-able") In all those that makes a blower for the 6.8 liter V-10, not one advertised a 215 HP boost. In fact, most were in the 30-50% range, depending on boost pressure. I imagine that someone could put a small enough pulley on any of these units to jump the boost up to 20+ pounds and thereby get a 215 HP increase, but what about the stock engine ? I doubt any stock motor could stay together with that much boost. Most of the above companies run around 8 pounds, which gives around 100-125 HP increases. I'd be scared of claims of 215 horses, especially with a stock motor.

If I were going to SC an engine not made for it, without upgrading lots of engine parts, on an aluminum engine. I'd keep the boost to a modest 3-6lbs. Just MHO.

I ran an engine designed for a SC up to 18 lbs. At the engine red line the SC was at its redline. Bad idea to run a SC over its design limit. It held together for at least 20K miles, but I have no idea what kind of long term longevity it had.

Not to judge anyone, but I dont think I believe these figures. I used to run and blown injected small block in an '81 camaro I used to race 1/4 mile with. Even with all the full race mods that I hade put in that engine, the blower only produced 23 pounds of boost and added about 220 hp. that was on a full race motor. I know for a fact that a stock engine will NOT handle the boost and increase hp figures that you quoted and hold together for any length of time. they are just not designed for it. I think a bit of refiguring needs to be done here. What is the source of your quoted figures? Not the website, cause I checked it.:-X23

On the question of where I got the info and about the hp and torque figures:

I got the info of 525hp and 700 lbs. ft of torque from the current issue of MMFF, July issue at page 256. After the question was raised as to the accuracy of the hp and torque increase since Whipple's site really does say a 50% increase, I e-mailed Jim Campisano, the editor of MMFF about a possible misprint. He answered today and confirms that there is no misprint. So the 525/700 figures can be obtained. Meantime will contact Whipple direct.

Spoke with the people at Whipple and what happened was MMFF people were shown an upcoming supercharger. Available by fall. The difference between that model and the version shown on the Whipple website is the intercooler. The one on the Whipple site comes without an intercooler and produces 466hp and 623 lbs. ft torque. The upcoming version will be with an intercooler and produces 525hp and 700 lbs. ft of torque.

Ok, so I'm no good with initials...what is MMFF?

525/700! I'd have to spend just as much on the drivetrain as what the SC is gonna cost just to make it stand up to it!

Can you say..."Contentment?"

Too bad they don't make a tranny too.

I would give a 4R100 about 2000 miles behind that setup before it was smoked.

wwwes,

Meant to reply sooner but thanks for the research and clarification on your original post.

I also noticed that the non-intercooled power figures you quoted are within spittin' distance of my estimates!

I've got the outlines of a half-dozen Integras, Eclipses, and Preludes stenciled on the driver's door of my 5,800 lb '96 F-250 460.
I think all the vinyl tape and 3 foot high spoilers slows 'em down some.

SO solly.
