hello everyone. i have a 79 crew im redoing, and have the power window parts from a 86 ford truck. now the question is what do i use for the rear doors? has anyone done this to a crew? thanks for any insight D.J.
They do not make a kit for the rear windows. What I did was buy an ElectricLife power window kit from Summit racing for the front doors. You remove the arm from the stock regulator assembly and remove the arm from the power assembly. You will have to drill the spot welds to remove the arms from the large gear assembly. The stock arm will have a two bend offset in it. Flatten the bent section closest to the roller for the glass. Weld the old "modified arm" in the same place on the new power assembly gear as it was mounted on the stock assembly. Quick note: The power assemblies fit opposite as the front doors. (the right assembly goes in the left door and vise versa. Also you may have to slightly modify the door's interior metal panel to clear the motor assembly. It does work very well. I have done this already to mine but I can not show you any pics because the truck is currently in the body shop with no hardware in the doors. If you send me a PM with your e-mail, I will send you a pick of the modified panel and power assembly. I don't know how to put pics on here other wise I would so that all can see how to do it.
i have seen those kits your talking about. after thinking this through.(somtime bad i know lol) could i use two more power window regulators from the fronts flipped in the back then??
does anybody know were to get a 4 position window switch for the driver door. that fits flat like the pre87 ford trucks? thanks D.J.
That is what I had to do. Buy two more front power window kits and flip them around. To make them work, they will have to be modifid like previously described.
I would suggest you try a master switch from one of the 1970's car applications: LTD's & Grand Marquis's from several years used a flat-to-the-door unit similar to the 80-86 Bronco/F-Series. Locating one of these in a yard may also yield you correctly color coded wiring to maintain more authenticity - and make installing & working on the system easier since you could reference factory books.
i was thinking about going searching for the old 4 door master switch. does anybody have any pics with the switches in the door panels for our trucks. were you able to cover up the old hand crank hole and have it look good? thanks for all the ideas keep them coming. D.J.
