Ford vs Nissan

I recently went up to Yankee Lake in Brookfield OH for Friday night "Truck Night" and watched all the fun including the tug-of-war......had a great time there BTW. Anyways, I tell my boss at work about it and now he wants to hook up his 2004 Nissan Titan to my 04 SD to see who will pull who.

ooooooookay

First of all, he did some performance mods to his truck like exhaust, cold air intake, chip, traction bars and he recently had it dynoed at the Nissan event out near Philly (I think thats where it was) and he dynoed somewhere around 350 ft lbs torque at the rear wheels and I cant remember what his HP rating was. He got 6 inch lift and 35's and the truck looks good and runs good.

I got all stock driveline, exhaust, everything stock except I have the cold air intake, and any mods I did to my truck were actually detrimental to its performance.....like the lift and tires. My truck spec'd out from the factory with 350 ft lbs of torque at the flywheel so hes already got me beat there, but I also got him by curb weight, mines about 700lbs heavier than his.

So should I take him up on this little wager, or politley decline? I am a little weary of either one of us braking something regardless of who wins, I mean even if I won I would hate for it to be because he broke something.

oh and the wager.........loser has to post the video on his truck forum (hes a big poster on a Titan forum) other than that its all in fun, but like I said Id hate to see either of us brake something.

So what do you guys think? Do it or dont do it?

Traction & gearing, not power, wins the tug-o-war. What gears are your running?

I say go for it!, just make sure you pull in low range. Sounds like you have the 5.4, your drive train should have no trouble enduring the tug-o-war...

Let's see the vid when you win...

I don't know, I have seen too many SD's blow the front driveshaft during a T-O-W. Look at it it is pretty puny. If you do it on dirt I would do it, but not on pavement. Just remember, low range and wait for him to start spining out then go for it and drag that jap truck back to Asia!

I'd go for it,along with what everyone else says also make sure your tie off is a little higher bc your higher wieght will drag him out, and put some concrete blocks in the bed. hope to the video soon.

I recommend you go down to the Diesel Competition forum

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/forum187/

Ask those guys for some tips on pulling and keeping your truck in one piece.

I would say go for it. I would do it in the dirt if possible.

Do you have limited slip or locker in the rear? I'm gonna guess not, but it would definitely help.

What kind of tires does he have? U have irocks and if you do it in the dirt youll probally have better chance then him (depending if he has good dirt/mud tires). Also I THINK nissan titans come with 3.55 gears in the rear and front. U have 3.73's. You already beat him in the gearing and chances are you already beat him in traction because of ur iroks (again depending on his tires. I don't know what kind he has).

also before the pull air down the tires a little for a little better grip (just don't let him see you do it).

I'd do it just because I like a good challenge. WD low, pavement or dirt (less chance of breaking something on dirt), roll into it don't just stomp it. Good luck and do us proud.
