Why do people do the 203*? First off what is the stock temp on our thermostat? I know it probably keeps the truck running cooler, but it really doesnt add any power..... Comments
As I understand it, International designed the engine to run at about 203° (ideally). For some reason, Ford went in with a 195° stat, and it is suspected that it was due to their existing inventory and a desire to not add one more part into the inventory system. Theoretically, the engine will run a little more efficiently at the 203°, but I've never seen anyone quote any measurable gains.

If you do this mod you also need to do the billet housing while you are at it. Once you have the stock housing off you will see why it is a must change item.
