Removing A Leaf

I have an F150 7700 that I want to remove a leaf from the rear spring pack. I really never haul heavy loads with it and it rides way too stiff. I realize that it may sit a little lower, but I wouldnt mind if it wasn't *** up.

So what leaf should I remove? A short one, a long one, or a middle one. Any advice is appreciated.

You really don't want to remove leafs from the rear. I would try and lower the tire pressure in the back before pulling a leaf. Are you doing a lot of highway driving or is it mostly in town?

Just get up there and take it out. Whichever one you want, Oak, Walnut, Cherry. Maybe use a leaf blower.

Seriously though, don't take out leaves. Lower the tire pressure.

I drive about 50/50 in town and highway. I just wish it wasnt such a firm ride in the rear. I was thinking of taking out a leaf and installing air shocks for when I need the load capacity. I am pretty sure a 7700 has an extra leaf anyway. Wouldnt lowering the air pressure make the tires wear faster?

It might make them wear faster, but without any load on the bed you can probably go down pretty low. Take a piece of chalk and make a line across the tread. Drive in a straight line for a short distance. If it's only missing in the center, you can lower the pressure. Keep this up until the line wears off evenly.

To be honest man, it's a truck and the ride will suck. My standard payload 2000 F150 4x4 supercab 5.4 shortbed rides like crap. The back end bounces all over the place.

Maybe try some new shocks to keep the rear end under control.

Other than that, there's not much I can tell you.

I have the same truck Mike (except 2002) and it rides wonderfully, even before I put airshocks in it.

What you need to do Mr 420 is to trade your truck to someone who needs the extra capacity I'd love to have a 7700 package truck... what I really need to do is upgrade to a super duty.

Trucks like weight. Its that simple. They are all designed to tow or haul and will all benefit from something ontop of the rear axle. Personally I use a fat kid...they don't have anything to do anyway and need you as a friend. (no offense, Im fat too. its just a joke).
A heavy bed cap, a tool box or just a container with sand (all should be seucred though) will do the trick. they even have new water bags designed for trucks. In the winter (location dependent) use ice... its free to haul and get rid of iff you need the load capacity at Lowe's. But please dont remove leaves...that just not smart on so many levels unless it has an "add-a-leaf" style leaf.

I agree with Rusty (not about using a fat kid) but using extra weight. my brother complained about the same thing - we put several bags sand in the bed and used a 1X4 spanning across the bed liner to keep them against the tailgate. worked for him. Blown240 - you might just want to try that trick for a while... see if it makes it ride a little smoother.
